Intelligent...Memory?

Scientists have been pushing the limit, reducing costs by improving efficiency by breakthroughs in technology.

It's not always about the nanotechnology or a laser engraved technology, we take a lot of it for granted. Take the machine you're reading this on for an example...imagine going through the Kelley School of Business without a computer or laptop. Imagine going through K201 with a pen and pencil. Or maybe differential equations without a graphing calculator. The question is, are we being lazy and letting technology take over our lives? I've seen it happen with facebook or even a simple four function calculator...yes, I have tutored a girl that punched in 1...+....1...=.... well you can guess what the result is.

Holmes Rolston III questioned this in his article, "Technology versus nature: What is natural?" What is natural? Is it natural for us to live through virtual television or create a whole different persona on the web? It's kind of scary when they produce monsters such as child molesters you see getting caught over and over again on date line. According to Rolston, technology is essential for our economy. It is essential in our progress and survival, but it also is taking over our culture and creating a whole new different definition for the world "natural".

To me, when I hear "natural" I think organic, fresh, 100% juice kind of thing. Gaming experts however, their natural must entail flicking their thumbs at an invisible joystick.

To sum things up, technology is fascinating. It is ever changing and to a degree utterly unattainable. What scientists and innovators come up with in the next ten, twenty years I cannot wait. But I just encourage...balance.


Three Dee, Tee Vee



The gold rush is here, competitors fighting amongst each other to get some of that leprechaun's gold...except this time it's for bringing 3D TV into homes!

Panasonic released the first 3D home theater system in Japan and signed to distribute the system through the US Best Buy. Retail price for the system is set at $3000 and the TV itself is at $2500.

Sony is planning to release its 3D TVs early June, with a higher price point. Each pair of glasses will be $130 alone. Their 60 inch screen will be sold for over $3000.

LG, Phillips and Toshiba have vague release dates for their own 3D systems, following close behind.

Movies like Avatar spurned the 3D craze and now companies are trying to implement the same technology into households. Since the TVs are out of the average consumer's budget, they are lowering costs by manufacturing the systems in existing facilities to minimize costs.

These 3D systems are aiming to gain hype in time for viewers to watch the upcoming World Cup in 3D! That is utterly fascinating, the thought of watching soccer in 3D. Imagine the technology that is required to shoot and project live games into three dimension.

Emerging technology like this makes it important for companies to keep up with the current inventions. Companies must keep up with daily, hourly trends in order to survive in their respective industries. According to Emerging Technology Trends on ZD.net, "...we realize the advantage of living on the cusp of technology. As a business driver, technology advances have certainly increased efficiency and indeed made 'buy-in' to technology a must for anyone wishing to compete, regardless of industry"

Gas Mileage: 56 Espressos to the Mile to Office Toilet Paper

All sorts of inventions are appearing around us, and some of them are quite bizarre. I find that the strangest inventions are being made to encourage sustainability and to turn our world more eco-friendly.



Take this machine for example. Invented in Japan, this is an ordinary office paper shredder with one twist: it turns the shredded paper into toilet paper! According to DigInfo, using this machine will save up to 60 cedar trees annually. I wonder if this is worth the chafing I'd imagine that comes with wiping financial reports.



Let me introduce you to the "Car-puccino". Yes, it is not enough that the American people run off of coffee, but our cars are picking up the bad habit as well.

This 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco is altered to run off of used coffee grounds. The system in the car converts the grounds to flammable gas, needing to stop every 40 to 60 miles. Granules are added to clean out the coffee filters which are accumulated with soot and tar.

Coffee mileage? 56 espressos per mile.

According to Nick Watson, "The brand doesn't matter." The coffee just needs to be extremely dry and in pellet form, allowing air to pass through while it burns.

Now that's eco-friendly.
